THE story of Maria, the would be nun sent as governess to the Von Trapp family and the dramatic flight of the family from Austria to Switzerland to escape the Nazis, is a familiar one, yet director David Tatnall has made the story fresh and stamped his signature on this excellent new production.

He made a virtue of a set that was effective in its stark simplicity with minimal physical props and decorative human props.

The production was nicely paced and used the auditorium space imaginatively.

At the centre was a good ensemble ethic and strong performances. Whiskers Team of Von Trapps were a charming bunch.

Of the other support players Katherine Evans (Mother Abbess) and Jack Shaw-Downie (Max Detweiller) again showed themselves as talented, subtle players. Sally Britton was sparky as Maria and had convincing rapport with Andrew Morgan (Captain Von Trapp).
