A SOUTHAMPTON greengrocers has closed down due to a “lack of support” from local shoppers, says its owner.

Rob Martyn, of Triangle Fruit and Vegetable shop in Manor Farm Road, told the Daily Echo that the shop had seen a steady decline in customers over the past two months.

In January last year Mr Martyn opened the store as a print shop.

But due to what he says is popular demand from people in the area, he reopened it three months later as a greengrocers.

He said: “I am sad that the shop has not been supported after so many people said they wanted it to be a greengrocer.”

“There are supermarkets everywhere that are killing independent shops like us and people do not realise that over a short period of time it is cheaper to use independent shops”

The two previous owners of the shop also cited a lack of trade for the premises closing, when it closed down as Chappy’s in 2008 and under the name Fruitopia in 2007.
