POLICE officers across Southampton have been put on alert to deal with potential victims of rapist Lloyd Phillips should they receive calls this weekend.

Detectives from the county’s major investigation team have given guidance to all staff on duty to ensure that anyone who makes contact, claiming to have been assaulted by him, is seen and spoken to promptly.

The move comes just a day after we exclusively revealed how vile Phillips, 48, is behind bars for 11 years after subjecting a young woman to a horrifying nine-hour assault while she was unconscious.

The married former boss of a shop that sold legal highs, he had given the 22-year-old woman a capsule and a can of high-alcohol Crunk juice which left her unconscious and suffering multiple seizures.

He then wheeled her in to a London hotel where he raped and assaulted her for nine hours while she lay motionless.

Yesterday police took the unusual step of saying that they believe the woman was not Phillips’ first victim and urged other women who may have been raped or assaulted by him to come forward.

They said that his predatory behaviour and calculated planning of what happened leads them to believe he may have struck before.

Superintendant Stuart Murray said: “I know how hard it can be to report a sexual assault. Victims often feel that they won’t be believed or that they will be blamed for what has happened to them, especially if they have been attacked by someone they know.

“If you have been raped or sexually assaulted then please be assured that we will listen to you, we will believe you and take you seriously, and we will do everything we can to bring your attacker to justice and support you through the investigation and court process.

“The victim in this case showed great courage in coming forward and reporting this crime. It must have been tremendously stressful having to go through the investigation and court case, but thanks to her bravery and determination to bring her rapist to justice, Phillips is now behind bars and cannot attack anyone else.”
