WINTER may have set in but Fareham is already looking to a bright spring with thousands of daffodils.
Some 30,000 Jet Fire daffodils have been planted in the space of an hour thanks to a new machine from Holland.
Fareham Borough Council brought in the machine to add the multitude of dwarf multi-stemmed daffodils to their award-winning Fareham in Bloom campaign.
Matt Wakefield, horticultural development officer for the council said the machine rapidly sows the bulbs into the soil and does in 60 minutes what one contracted planter would take four days.
"It is a very impressive machine and I'm sure it will catch on with other councils," he said.
Extending the campaign to the Park Lane Recreation Ground, Matt said the flowers will last for longer than just next spring.
"We are very proud of the Fareham in Bloom campaign and now these bulbs will be here permanently," he added.
The daffodils are expected to flower in late February and early March next year.
