A man will appear in court today charged over the killing of two Hampshire teenagers.

Detectives from Hampshire Constabulary's Major Investigation Team (HMIT) last night charged a man after the fatal road traffic collision in Gosport.

Samuel Etherington, aged 20, of Gosport, is charged with two counts of manslaughter.

He is due to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates Court this monring.

Police were called to Ann's Hill Road in Gosport at 4.15am on Sundayafter a green Honda Civic car had collided with two teenage girls.

Jasmine Allsop, aged 14, died at the scene of the collision. Olivia Lewry, aged 16, was taken to hospital where she died later.

Ian Harris, Head of the Crown Prosecution Service’s Complex Casework Unit in Wessex said: “I have today authorised Hampshire Constabulary to charge Samuel Etherington, 20, with two offences of gross negligence manslaughter following an investigation into the death of Jasmine Allsop, 14, and Olivia Lewry, 16, after the car he was driving collided with them in Ann's Hill Road in Gosport in the early hours of Sunday 3rd November 2013.

“ I have reached my decision after carefully considering all the available evidence provided to me by Hampshire Constabulary.

“I am satisfied, in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors, that there is sufficient evidence and that it is in the public interest to prosecute Samuel Etherington for these offences.

“ Jasmine and Olivia have died in tragic circumstances and I would like to extend my very deepest sympathies to their families and friends. ”

A spokesman for Hampshire Police thank the community for its help and co-operation during the investigation named Operation Barb.
