WINCHESTER civic chiefs are close to finalising funding for a new skate park in the city centre.
The town forum was told that Veolia Environment Trust has awarded £100,000 for the £330,000 project.
The city council has earmarked £157,000 and Headbourne Worthy Parish Council £10,000. That leaves a shortfall of around £60,000 the forum was told. A grant application is being made to Sport England.
Councillor Robert Sanders said: “We all want something built that the youth of Winchester will appreciate.”
The new park will replace the ageing one next to the River Park Leisure Centre.
There is some uncertainty over timing because of the potential redevelopment of the leisure centre.
