The performing arts students had the perfect opportunity to showcase their skills in this evening of musical extracts from a number of shows. Ranging from Wicked to Mary Poppins, Matlida to Les Miserables, with Our House, Legally Blonde, Dirty Dancing and Cats in the mix, this was a varied selection.
Our House was given a stomping, energetic treatment that perfectly befitted the material, while not overwhelming the quiet tender moments between the star crossed lovers at the centre of the story. The numbers from Legally Blonde and Matilda had a similar fun appeal and were handled with great verve. The stand out vocal performances were undoubtedly the rendition of I dreamed a dream and Defying Gravity.
The musicians and backing singers deserved great credit for their invaluable contribution to the proceedings. There was some effective use of lighting and imaginative use of the auditorium space.
