A Hampshire MP has praised a charity’s scheme to tackle loneliness at Christmas.
Caroline Dinenage, MP for Gosport, said The Abbeyfield Society’s work ensured elderly people would not be alone.
As part of the Coping at Christmas campaign, Tamar House and Privett Farm House in Gosport – both Abbeyfield homes – are inviting local older people to join residents for a free festive meal or overnight stay.
She said: “For many people, Christmas is a very difficult time of year, which is why I am pleased that local Abbeyfield houses will be opening their doors to elderly people who would otherwise be alone over the festive period.”
