A PAIR of adventurers planning an epic 2,700-mile ocean row have been learning survival skills for the challenge in Hampshire.
Darren Taylor and Alex Flynn are taking part in the first ever Great Pacific Race, rowing from Monterey Bay, California to Hawaii.
As part of their training, the daring duo have been hard at work at Hamble School of Yachting learning crucial sea survival techniques ahead of a gruelling crossing which could take up to 75 days from June 7.
The facility donated its time and Royal Yacht Association-accredited facilities saving the pair thousands of pounds as they look to raise £250,000. Alex, 41, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2008 when he was just 36, while Darren, also 41, is a firefighter so the pair, based in Oxfordshire, want to raise money for The Cure Parkinson’s Trust and the Fire Fighters Charity.
Hamble fire station staff have been supporting the duo.
