RESIDENTS have been offered a deal to make their homes more eco-friendly.

Eastleigh Borough Council wants people to take on the Solent Green Deal’s assessment to better insulate their homes and help them stay warm while saving money.

The first 75 borough residents, who have not yet benefited from cavity wall and loft insulation, and who register for a Green Deal assessment during March, will be entered into a special trial initiative. Should they take up the measures suggested they will not pay for the £150 assessment.

Energy improvements could include wall insulation, double glazing and new boilers.

The Green Deal is a Government initiative to make households more efficient and local authorities can apply for up to £3m towards green schemes.

Eastleigh is bidding, in conjunction with Southampton, Gosport and Portsmouth, for £2.4m.
