THEIR smiles say it all.

Two months ago the call went out for the public to dig deep and bring a charity back from the brink.

And how you responded!

Staff and families of those who use The Rainbow Centre can now look forward to the future after reaching their fundraising target of £150,000 and then passing it.

The Fareham centre’s appeal fund now stands at £156,600 enabling the centre to continue to offer its pioneering education methods for teaching disabled children and adults.

And the immediate future looks even more secure after Southampton law firm Paris Smith pick-ed the Palmer-stone Drive centre as its chosen charity for the coming year.

Rainbow Centre director Lara Bull said: “I’m absolutely thrilled. It’s very exciting. There’s lots of smiling faces here at the centre today.

As a result of the appeal many local companies have joined our 100 Club and numerous individuals have signed up to the Raindrops Regular Giving scheme, which is a fantastic start to developing our sustainable income stream.”

To celebrate their success Dancing on Ice star Robin Cousins will be at the Fareham centre today to see how the centre helps its users and will lead an exercise class.

In March centre bosses made a desperate appeal to businesses and the communituy for support.

Pledges big and small poured in, including from Fareham Borough Council chief executive Peter Grimwood, who ran the London Marathon for the centre to charity shop worker Sheila Bullock from Bishopstoke giving £500 to the cause. More than 70 people from a variety of local firms also took part in a golf tournament at Meon Valley Marriott Hotel and Country Club.

Set up in 1990, the Rainbow Centre, in Palmerston Drive, began life working with children with cerebral palsy and their families.

In 2007 the centre extended treatment to include adults, particularly those with multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and recovering stroke or head injury victims using conductive education.
