A MURDER investigation is continuing this morning following the discovery of the body of a young woman.

As reported last night, officers taped off the Society of St James in Millbrook Road East in Southampton after the discovery was made at 6.25pm yesterday evening.

Daily Echo:

The victim is a woman believed to be in her late teens or early 20s, according to detectives.

A 30-year-old man from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is being quizzed by officers.

The area was swamped with officers last night as they try and piece together what happened.

There will be an increased police presence in the area in the coming days.

Detective chief inspector Darren Rawlings from the Hampshire Major Investigations Team confirmed the death was being treated as suspicious.

He said officers will be conducting door-to-door inquiries over the weekend and neighbours will witness an increase in police activity in the next few days.

He said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who might have seen or heard anything suspicious in Millbrook Road East over the past couple of days.”

Daily Echo:

In a statement released by the Society of St James today, a spokesman said: "We confirm that there has been a suspicious death at one of our services in Southampton and we are working with the police as they seek to establish the facts.

"The scheme is a housing project for people who have been homeless.  One of the residents in the scheme was found dead in her accommodation on Friday 13th June  and another resident is helping the Police with their enquiries.

"We are very upset by this tragic incident and will be working hard to support the other residents and our staff."
