PHEW! They certainly know how to put on a show in one Hampshire market town.

With its carnival atmosphere and the temperature nudging towards 27C (80F) Romsey’s annual free music festival pulled in thousands of fans and organisers of yesterday’s Beggars Fair certainly weren’t disappointed with the turnout.

Daily Echo:

Beggars Fair chairwoman Delsia Bartlett said: “It was an excellent turnout with a nice mixture of entertainment for everyone and everywhere was busy. It was a lovely atmosphere.”

Nearly every street had some form of family extravaganza going on.

Daily Echo:

This included live folk, soul and pop bands, Morris dancers, jugglers and street theatre.

The day’s entertainment started with young children from the Southampton-based Showcase Drumming Academy which hit the right notes with festival-goers - drumming up large crowds.

Daily Echo:

The youngsters armed with drum sticks used chairs as drums to tap out the beat, in time to pop music and children in the crowd were encouraged to join in.
