PROTESTS over a controversial travellers' site last night sparked a shock U-turn from a group of leading politicians.
Three members of Southampton's Liberal Democrat controlled council have vowed to vote against their party after a heated public meeting.
Their decision comes just days after they backed plans for the site at Monks Brook in Swaythling at a council meeting held just last week.
Now the politicians, including Cabinet member for education Ann Milton, have agreed to support their local constituents.
It comes after hundreds of residents turned out to voice their concerns over the scheme at a public meeting last night.
