WINCHESTER primary school bosses are to meet the city council to try to resolve a dispute over the use of a municipal park.

Last week, a teacher and children were ordered off River Park by a city council contractor.

St Bede school was not given any warning before eviction from a park it has used for nearly 100 years.

The school has no playing fields of its own and so has traditionally used the park only yards from its door.

The Serco employee said the school must pay to use the field and there was an issue of insurance.

Dominic Hiscock, chairman of the board of governors at the school, said he was hopeful the problem could be resolved at the meeting tomorrow. He said though if the council insisted on charging money for every time the children use the park then the school would struggle to meet the cost.
