Amanda Holden has admitted she suffered first-day nerves as she began her new role as a presenter on ITV's This Morning.

The Britain's Got Talent judge, who hails from Bishop's Waltham, is covering Holly Willoughby's maternity leave, and said she had been worried about filling the regular host's shoes.

She said at the start of the show: ''I've got massive butterflies - I felt really wretchedly nervous yesterday and now I feel a little bit better.''

Co-host Phillip Schofield read out tweets of encouragement for Holden, including one from Willoughby, and she replied: ''Thank you, Holly, hope you've got your feet up at home!''

She added: ''My heart is pounding, can you see it?''

Schofield joked: ''You told me you've got three nipple covers on - it's absolutely fine because I have too.''

Holden made it through her first This Morning without any mishaps and said as the show finished: ''Yes, I'm all right now. Is it too early for gin?''
