OLYMPIC swimming heroine Rebecca Adlington made a splash to mark the completion of a £2m upgrade at a Hampshire leisure centre.
Rebecca, who won two gold medals at the Beijing Games in 2008, joined Olympic diver turned-commentator Leon Taylor as Fareham Leisure Centre held an open day hosted by Everyone Active.
The pair met guests, signed autographs, and posed for pictures before holding a children’s Oceans of Fun swimming session with Olympic water polo players Fran Leighton and Adam Scholefield, and Olympic synchronised swimmers Vicki Lucas and Adele Carlsen.
The event was opened by Mayor of Fareham Cllr David Norris.
Around £1.5m was spent on upgrading the leisure centre’s pools by Fareham Borough Council, and a brand new £500,000 gym was funded by the organisation Everyone Active.
Ryan Grant, Everyone Active general manager, said: “It was a fantastically busy day with plenty of activities and challenges for all ages.
Rebecca Adlington’s appearance made the day particularly memorable and the Oceans of Fun event in the pool was a great success.”
Cllr Sean Woodward, leader of Fareham Borough Council, added: “We were extremely pleased to see people enjoying the facilities and there was a great sense of celebration.”
