BREATHTAKING scenes from Hollywood megastar Tom Cruise's Mission Impossible 5 will be shot on Southampton water today.

As revealed by the Daily Echo members of the production crew working on Mission Impossible 5 have already arrived at Fawley Power Station, which towers over the entrance to Southampton Water.

A footpath between the power station and the foreshore will be closed for several days to enable filming to proceed.

The possibility of glimpsing Tom Cruise has caused a buzz of excitement in the village, particularly among his female fans.

Filming could start as early as Sunday but there is no word as to when the Hollywood superstar will arrive on set.

One villager said: “Tom Cruise is the only name I've heard mentioned, although I understand he's not staying in the area.”

The huge power station, which closed last year, is an ideal setting for a gritty action thriller.

Daily Echo: It includes a vast turbine hall big enough to house two ships the size of the QE2 and a circular control room that has been compared to a flying saucer.

No details of the scenes to be shot at Fawley have been released.

Daily Echo: Tom Cruise in the first Mission Impossible It comes just months after the stars of 24 descended on Southampton Docks to shoot scenes for the latest series, Live Another Day, starring Kiefer Sutherland.
