MULTIPLE track failures at a Hampshire railway causing major disruption for commuters this morning will last all day.

Trains going through Winchester station have been affected by long delays for the second time in a week, angering commuters.

The problems began at Winchester last night and South West Trains had hoped that it would be fixed by 11am.

But bosses have now confirmed the disruption will last all day while specialist teams carry out repairs.

Work was carried out to replace the multiple failings of the equipment last night but unfortunately this failed to work.

Repairs have continued overnight and will continue until the problem is fixed.

This has resulted in a severely reduced service running between Winchester and Basingstoke.

Passengers are being advised to allow extra time for their journey and to check before travelling this morning.

Cross Country services are taking ticket holders via any reasonable route until further notice and a replacement bus service will take people between Farehamand Eastleigh in both directions.

The incident is not the first time that users have experienced problems in the area.

Signalling problems caused delays between Winchester of at least 30 minutes on November 3, infuriating railway users.

Regarding the problems last week, a South West Trains spokesman said that a signalling fault meant all trains had to come to a complete standstill at Winchester before asking permission from the signaller to continue.
