WITH the new year under way, you may be thinking about the year ahead and the resolutions that you have made.

After the indulgence of Christmas it is not surprising that being healthier and fitter is at the top of most people’s list.

Learning something new, spending more time with family and giving money to charity are also among the most popular resolutions made each year in the UK.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust can provide various opportunities and activities that can help improve your quality of life and achieve some of those resolutions.

The beauty and diversity of nature means that by engaging with it, we can help you keep most of those commonly broken promises that we make to ourselves every year.

  • Get healthy

Winter is a brilliant time to wrap up warm and explore the beautiful outdoors.

From nature walks on our reserves to a spot of wildlife gardening, these activities can contribute to our general fitness.

If you are looking to try new things then why not attend one of our regular talks on how to make your garden more wildlifefriendly or join one of our guided walks?

There are regular volunteer parties that take place across our nature reserves where you can get involved with practical activities like scrub clearance, pulling invasive plants or constructing fences, as well as getting active. You can make a real difference to wildlife.

  • More family time

There is nothing better than spending time with loved ones. We can provide lots of opportunities for families and friends to spend time together in the wild and in 2015 we are encouraging people to make a wild change.

We have plenty of family activities that are a perfect way to introduce children to nature and have fun.

From one-off weekend events to regular Wildlife Watch and Tots clubs for families, our aim is to demonstrate the joy of nature and to involve families in the experience of learning about wildlife.

Activities include pond dipping, making bird feeders and shelter building.

If you don’t have kids, we have plenty of events and courses for adults, so why not make a day of it and enjoy some quality time with those close to you?

  • Learn something new

Keen to learn a new skill? The trust offers some great courses to help expand your knowledge, learn new skills and meet people. Courses are open to everyone, and aim to inspire people to learn new skills or discover a new hobby as well as developing an appreciation of nature and conservation.

Courses range from crafts such as nature photography and print making, to wildlife identification, survival techniques and outdoor cooking. They can range from an afternoon to several days and prices start at £20.

  • Donate to charity

You can make a difference by giving your support to protecting Hampshire’s wildlife and wild places by becoming a member of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust.

You can join as an individual or as a family member and for £3 a month you will be helping us protect and create havens for wildlife.

Without our members’ support we would not have the ability or voice to stop the decline (or extinction) of the wide range of species, habitats and landscapes that we take for granted in everyday life.
