Demonstrators gathered at a Southampton university to protest about the chief executive of a weapons manufacturer speaking today.
Sir Roger Carr of BAE systems came to the University of Southampton to speak about his work in the arms industry.
Officers from Hampshire police and security were called by the university after they had been warned there would be a protest by members of the Southampton Campaign Against the Arms Trade and Students for Palestine (Southampton).
They stood waving placards calling for an end to the arms industry while protestors disrupted the lecture, called The Defence Industry, A Moving Target were inside.
A spokesman from the University of Southampton said they were not expecting a controversial speech.
Michael Ambrose of the Students for Palestine (Southampton) said the protestors were against BAE who sell weapons to countries like Saudi Arabia.
He said: "We believe the speech will be about BAE who have links with the university and who have representatives as part of the university's wider programme for employment.
"This is not just about the speech but also about the university's links with BAE."
