THE traditional Daisy Chain Run, when thousands of bikers made their way across the New Forest for the Wessex Cancer Trust, is being revived.
The last run took place three years ago. Then, 7,000 bikers took part in the Totton to Gang Warily ride. But the rural roads struggled to cope and the event ground to a halt.
This August, a new style of event will be held in Beaulieu. It will be called Daisy Bike Day 2007.
It will be a bikers' convention and thousands of motorbike enthusiasts are expected to arrive in the New Forest.
The popular event has been revived by Holbury resident Allan Glass who, after successfully battling leukaemia over the last few years, wanted to thank the charity that helped him on the road to recovery.
Former biker and Daisy Chain Run participant Allan, 62, hopes the event will raise thousands of pounds towards an appeal to raise enough to buy a new £700,000 gamma camera for Southampton General Hospital.
The gamma camera is used in radiation treatment for cancer.
He said: "The camera they have got is old and over-worked.
"This would allow more people to be treated more quickly and more effectively and give them a chance of life after leukaemia."
The day-long event will include an arena featuring biking displays, as well as trade stands and refreshments.
