IT was a an huge explosion that could have been avoided for the sake of a few pounds but one that was to cost a young man his life.

Krisztian Takacs, pictured, was working on board a boat belonging to Philip Wyman, 61, when a fire started below decks and soon engulfed the 48ft yacht in a huge fireball at a Hampshire boatyard.

A propane gas cylinder exploded 300m into the air as a result of the fire which killed the 26-year-old Hungarian national.

Wyman is facing jail after being found guilty of manslaughter due to gross negligence.

The court heard how he neglected to buy vital safety equipment that would have cost just £4. Krisztian's parents have today spoken of the loss of their only son who had come to the UK in search of a better life for his family.
