SHE is terrified of flying - but that will not stop a Hampshire mum from doing a 10,000ft parachute jump.

Amy Light is so scared of planes that she does not currently have a passport.

She has only flown once and that was nine years ago on a family holiday to Spain but she said she was so terrified she did not leave her seat during the flight.

However, Amy, of Chestnut Avenue, Eastleigh, will taking part in a sponsored tandem skydive which will not only raise money for vital research but mark the 21st anniversary of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The plucky 23-year-old is prepared to face her fears for a special person in her life - her four-year-old son Joshua, who was two years old when he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. They are both pictured above.

Amy said: "I am still a bit scared but I am only doing this for my son and to find a cure for him and others.

"I just hope the parachute will open. If it does not cure my flying phobia, nothing will."

Joshua has to have insulin injections twice a day and four blood tests to keep his sugar levels in check. But Amy says he is a happy little boy who is always on the go.

There to greet her when she gets her feet back on the ground will be Joshua, her husband Chris, 26, and their ten-month-old son Charlie.
