JUST days ago he said he wouldn’t stand – but Hampshire pensioner Ray Hall will contest the General Election after all after his new party name was given the green light.
Election chiefs had deemed the name Beer, Baccy and Crumpet Party too “sexist” – but he has now got approval for his new name of the Beer, Baccy and Scratchings Party.
Seventy-five-year-old businessman Mr Hall, from Hedge End, stood at the 2013 Eastleigh by-election but said last week his hopes of standing in the General Election were dashed after he failed to appeal the Electoral Commission’s decision on his party name.
However, he has now decided to stand with his new name, describing his party’s stance as “all-inclusive, anti-austerity” and “neither left or right wing”.
He told the Daily Echo: “It’s trying to keep the same concept of working class people who enjoy a pint, cigarette and a packet of crisps or scratchings.
“I was getting absolutely nowhere at all with the objections to the commission, and it was either change the name or perhaps have to wait five years.”
