PLANS to enlarge a house in New Milton have been given the go-ahead – despite claims the scheme is too big.
Members of New Forest District Council have approved an application to build a two-storey side extension to a property in Vectis Road.
One of the neighbours had objected to the proposal, saying it would be like living next door to a small hotel.
Other critics included New Milton Town Council, which claimed the proposed extension would increase the size of a building that was “already dominant”.
But the application was approved at a meeting of the district council’s planning and development control committee, despite further criticism of the plan.
Cllr George Dart said: “It seems over-large and totally out of keeping with the street scene.”
However, committee chairman Alison Hoare reminded members that plans to extend a neighbouring house had been approved by the council last year.
“We can’t be seen to be inconsistent,” said Cllr Hoare.
