HEALTH bosses have sold off a further piece of a former hospital site where redevelopment work is due to start within days.

NHS Southern Health has sold the freehold of a former care facility within the Coldeast Hospital site in Sarisbury Green.

The 2.5 acre site, known as The Meadows, was a 19,000sq ft single storey accommodation with parking.

Estate agent Goadsby, which handled the deal, has previously sold off two other major parcels of land at the site, in Sarisbury Green, which is being regenerated.

The council’s project, which will see part of the land used for a leisure centre and housing, is due to start next week .

Fareham Borough Council intends to spend more than £7m on a state-of-the-art leisure centre on the site.

The council has revealed this will be named the Holly Hill Leisure Centre (pictured below.)

Daily Echo:

It also will pump £5m into a sheltered housing complex for the site with 36 one and two-bedroom apartments to house 47 older council tenants and those on the waiting list.

There will also be a communal lounge, activity room, garden and hair salon.

Crosshead The development, which will be partially funded by a £720,000 grant from the Homes and Communities Agency’s Affordable Homes Programme, is part of the council’s strategy to build 500 new affordable homes by 2017.

Work on the leisure centre, which was given planning permission in February, is due to start this summer and it is expected to open in summer next year.

The housing complex should be completed in a year.
