Two inmates escaped on to the roof of a prison.
The prisoners managed to get on to the roof of the Parkshurst site of HMP Isle of Wight yesterday.
Specialist teams from the mainland travelled to the island to negotiate with the prisoners, and managed to talk them down in the early hours of this morning.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was also on standby.
The prison is a Category B and has about 500 inmates.
In a statement released this morning, a spokesperson for the Minstry of Justice said: “Two prisoners at HMP Isle of Wight gained access to the roof of a residential unit on Tuesday 28 July.
“Specially trained prison officers were deployed to bring them down safely. The incident was resolved at 00:45 on Wednesday with no injuries to prisoners or staff.”
