A COACH driver has been arrested following a crash on a Hampshire motorway this morning.

It is believed 30 people were onboard the coach which left the road at junction 4a of the northbound M3, near Farnborough.

There were no serious injuries, although 10 passengers are being treated by emergency services at the scene for minor ailments, with four being taken to hospital.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision.

The A327 has been closed by Hampshire police and three fire engines including one from Basingstoke Fire Station and two from Rushmoor were called to the scene.

A spokesperson for South East Coast Ambulance Service, said: “Shortly after just half past eight we had a call from police to attend an incident where a coach had left the M3.

"We sent a total of three ambulance paramedic cars, as well as two ambulances with two paramedic crews."

"All the injuries were minor ones like back pain, cuts and bruises. We have taken four patients in two vehicles to Frimley Park Hospital.

Two were suffering from neck pain, one from shoulder pain and one patient had arm and shoulder pain.”

National Express have confirmed to the Daily Echo that the coach was travelling from Bournemouth to London and had stopped at both Southampton and Winchester.

In a statement, a National Express spokesman, said: ““We can confirm that one of our vehicles has been involved in an incident on the M3 near Fleet and we are currently in the process of making onward travel arrangements for the customers involved. Emergency services attended the scene and we will help them in any investigation into this incident.”

Hampshire Constabulary said in a statement: "Hampshire Constabulary was called at 08:27am this morning to a report that a coach had left the carriageway and came to a stop in a ditch at Junction 4A on the M3.

"The coach had not overturned and was still upright, no other vehicles are believed to have been involved, The off-slip road has been closed to allow debris to be cleared and an investigation to take place. This will be closed for most of the morning and diversions have been put in place.

"Ten people have been treated for minor injuries, four of them have been taken to hospital for treatment. 

"The coach driver, a 48 year-old man from Bournemouth, has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and is helping police with their enquiries at the current time."
