A CYCLIST had to be rushed to hospital last night after they collided with a car, shattering the driver’s windscreen.
According to witnesses, the female cyclist was travelling down Church Lane, Highfield, when they went straight into the bonnet of a car travelling in the opposite direction.
Clive Marks, 59, who lives in the road said: “The cyclist was wearing a helmet and had lights on but went straight up into the car bonnet and into the windscreen and smashed the windscreen in front of the driver.”
Mr Marks, a dentist, added: “Cyclists coming down this road have not been a problem, I cycle to work every day, but it horrifies me how many cyclist are hurtling around without any lights, but this cyclist happened to have lights.”
A spokeswoman from South Central Ambulance said: “We received the call at 8.05pm last night - on the junctions of University road and church road when a car collided with a cyclist.
“A rapid response unit and ambulance were called to the scene, where a female in her late teens was assessed and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
“The team then took her to Southampton General for further treatment.”
