RAP star Dizzee Rascal has been announced as the shock headliner of a  Hampshire music festival.

The household name will play Blissfields Festival this July in a major coup for the boutique event near Winchester.

Thirty acts announced today include fellow headliners Everything Everything, who top the bill on Friday July 1.

At a capacity of just over 5,000, Blissfields is known for catching stars such as Bastille and Mumford and Sons on their way to the top.

But Dizzee Rascal will be seen as the first of a wave of bigger acts as the festival expands in future.

The grime pioneer, whose hits include Bonkers, Holiday and Fix Up Look Sharp, scored four consecutive number one albums between 2003 and 2010, starting with the Mercury Prize-winning Boy In Da Corner.

And his management approached Blissfields as one of their ideal festivals, according to co-organiser Paul Bliss.

"I believe he's only playing five festivals in the summer so we're pretty chuffed that he's plumping for Blissfields," Mr Bliss said.

Eccentric indie stars Everything Everything will headline the Friday night after a breakout 2015 which saw their third album, Get To Heaven, reach the top 10.

And drum 'n' bass trailblazers Serial Killaz will headline the festival's dance-oriented Hidden Hedge.

Other names confirmed include Blissfields regulars Beans on Toast, Dub Pistols and Too Many T's alongside local acts including Sam Brothers.

The festival, which runs from June 30 to July 2, is adopting a 'house party' theme this year, with slumber parties, garage raves and retro discos dotted around the site at Woodmancott.

Also on the lineup are Blushed, Deadproud, Ethan Ash, Fervent, Frankie Forman, Hey Charlie, Jones, Molotov Jukebox, Mary Miss Fairy and Mini Da Minx.

For families there will be a reworked A-Z Arena with hands-on activities and theatrical twists. Other changes include a makeover to the Larch area, which will run later to include a silent disco.

Completing the first announcement are Morgan Hislop, Naina, One Step Too Late, Ønly, Roni Size, Sundara Karma, Shorebitch, Son Of Dave, The Church, The Diamond Age, The Great One, Unattached and Will Varley.

Around 50 new acts will be confirmed in mid-to-late February, organisers say, with a third announcement in April.

The site has room for more than 8,000 festivalgoers, but the Bliss family plans to expand capacity gradually over the next few years.

The first batch of weekend tickets at £90.45 has sold out and prices will rise when the second raft is released.

Single day, youth and family tickets are also available.
