POLICE have named a woman who died after being hit by a lorry in a layby.
Susan McIvor, 72, was struck on the A31 New Forest just after 8am last Thursday, May 19.
She was treated by ambulance crews at the scene but died from her injuries.
Officers are still investigating the circumstances of the crash between Burley services and Bratley Arch, which closed the carriageway for several hours.
Some motorists reportedly tried to turn around and drive the wrong way along the dual carriageway to escape the queues.
Ms McIvor was from Bournemouth.
The driver of the long-distance HGV which was involved in the incident did not sustain any injuries.
No arrests have been made.
