FIREFIGHTERS are warning people to ensure they are vigilant when using disposable barbecues after a blaze at a Hampshire home.
Crews were called to a house in Frampton Way, Kings Worthy, at 8pm yesterday after a man had put the item in a bin and the container caught fire.
A quick-thinking neighbour intervened by using his garden hose to put out the flames which were in danger of spreading to the house.
The fire was out by the time crews from Winchester fire station arrived.
Station watch manager Sean Gray said: “We are reminding people to ensure that disposable barbecues are properly extinguished and cooled down before them throw them away.”
