A HOSPITAL in Hampshire has launched its own eye health awareness month.
The Nuffield Health Wessex Hospital in Chandler's Ford will spend June educating the public on how to look after their eyes.
Events will be held from today to teach people about common conditions and proactive ways to avoid them.
Recent statistics show that almost two million people in the UK are living with sight loss.
At the events the public will be able to meet consultants to ask questions about eye health.
Peter Hodgkins, consultant ophthalmologist, said that making people stay healthy and get healthy is the hospital’s top priority.
He said: “We hope that running initiatives such as Eye Health Month will give people the information they need to take good care of their eyes and reduce the chances of needing surgery later in life.”
Reducing alcohol intake, eating healthily and to taking regular screen breaks can all help to combat common eye problems.
