HUNDREDS of people lined the streets of Romsey for an unusual sight - people racing in their beds.

It’s an event which attracts scores of people to the town each year as people attempt to push beds down the road as part of the Romsey Carnival celebrations.

Only three beds took part this year, but many more costumed revellers hopped into wheelbarrows and make-shift go-karts.

Local firefighters were on hand to hose down the contestants as they made their way round.

The course ran from The Market Place, through Bell Street, The Cornmarket, The Hundred, Latimer Street, Portersbridge Street, The Horsefair, Mill Lane, Church Road, Abbey Approach and Church Street before finishing back at The Market Place.

Afterwards, the Romsey Old Cadets put on a display in the town centre.

The event, sponsored by Rownhams Bed Centre and David Wilson Homes, is organised by Romsey Carnival committee to help raise cash for Romsey Carnival.

A procession will march through the town from Romsey Industrial Street from 3pm on Sunday

The parade will leave Romsey Industrial Estate from 3pm before leading through Fishlake Meadows, Greatbridge Road, Duttons Road, Station Road, Latimer Street, The Hundred, Palmerston Street, Broadwater Road, Bell Street and The Market Place before finishing in The Hundred.

The committee has also organised a quiz night at The Comrades Club in South Front tonight from 8pm on and a darts competition from 2.30pm on July 23.
