A MAJOR gas leak has shut a Southampton road near St Mary’s Football Stadium this morning.
Firefighters were called to Britannia Road last night for six hours after a digger drove through a main gas line.
The incident happened at around 5pm and crews from St Mary’s were on the scene till midnight overseeing gas workers and making sure the scene was safe.
Hightown firefighters were also on standby.
Now Britannia Road, which is near St Mary’s Stadium, has been closed ahead of further works to fix the gas line this morning.
