POLICE are urging residents to be on the lookout after two burglaries in a Hampshire town.

Officers at Hampshire Constabulary have launched an investigation after two burglaries in Romsey.

Offenders gained entry to two properties in Horseshoe Drive by smashing a double glazed window and conducting an untidy search in the upstairs bedrooms.

Police said it also appears at one of the properties the offenders have yanked the PIR light behind the garage so that it didn’t light up alerting the neighbours, which may indicate that the burglary took place during the night.

Investigations have now confirmed that both residents have been away on holiday.

This means the timeline could be between July 7 and to July 16, and police are appealing to people for information to come forward.

When the residents returned home they saw that post was still in the letter box flap, possibly indicating that it may have been obvious to the offenders that there was no one homein.

According to the residents, there washad been no suspicious persons or activity prior to going on holiday.

Both properties where the glass was smashed appear to have been broken with a flat -sided implement which was also apparent with tool marks on the conservatory door where the offenders have tried to remove the rubber seal.

Items stolen include a classic Longines watch, which was about eight years old and worth £600, a diamond cluster ring worth £900, another diamond ring with shaped flowers on a silver band worth around £1,000.

Another diamond ring was also stolen with a gold band and the middle stone slightly discoloured worth around £400, three gold wedding rings and a gold signet ring with the initials PF engraved in italics.

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
