A MAN has been charged with arson after a fire in a five-storey block of flats.
Ian Kilgour, 32, has been charged by police with arson with intent/reckless as to whether life was endangered following a fire in Vanguard Road.
The fire broke out on the fourth floor home in a five storey block in Vanguard Road at 11.30pm Saturday night.
Arson crews from Hampshire Fire and Rescue were at the scene and crews from Hightown fire station tackled the flames on Saturday.
Neighbour Ivy Macdonald, 79, also saw the commotion and said: βIt is terrible - I felt very nervous looking out of the window and seeing all the emergency services.
"It is like something that you see in a movie.β
Kilgour, of Vanguard Road, Southampton, has been remanded and custody and will appear at Southampton Crown Court on September 3.
