NORTH West Hampshire MP Kit Malthouse had more than £9,000 in expenses claims processed in February and March.

The Independent Parliamentary Standards (IPSA) released figures earlier this month showing that the Conservative politician had claimed a total of £9,364.85 in his political duties, the majority of which was spent on rent.

Almost half of the total, around £4,000, was spent on his constituency office in Church Close, Andover, while there were also £1,000 worth of accommodation costs.

One of the bigger expenses Mr Malthouse had processed in February and March was the £624 for the redecoration of his constituency office.

He also claimed £35 for a new kettle and £37.98 for stationery.

The politician claimed around £850 in advertising for his surgeries, while he also recorded more than 500 miles worth of travel, including seven trips to London, at a cost of £226.85.

When contacted Mr Malthouse for a comment, a spokesperson said: “All of the expenses claimed are for the proper and efficient running of his constituency and parliamentary offices and his duty as a member of parliament.”

The spokesperson added that prior to the recent decoration of the office that it had not been decorated for around “10 to 15 years”.

The recent IPSA figures, which detail the expenses of all 650 MPs processed between February and March, made national headlines this month after MP Simon Danczuk was revealed to have claimed £4.05 for tissues for ‘general cleaning and upset constituents’.

Millionaire Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt also featured after he made several small claims for parking, some for as little as 68p.
