A GROUP of fundraisers were literally jumping for joy at the amount they raised for charity.

A charity event was held to raise money for several mental health charities and Southampton General Hospital.

People took part in a charity bounce which saw scores of people jumping on small trampolines in a fun way to keep fit.

The event was organised by fitness instructor Maria Hernandez Smith who also runs the company Boogie Bounce which gets people in shape through trampoline based exercise.

The charity event in the Royal British Legion Hall in Cadnam managed to raise a total of £1,146 for the organisations Bipolar UK, Solent Mind, Epilepsy Action and Southampton General Hospital.

They have now surpassed their original target of raising £210.

Writing on the event’s Just Giving page, Maria said: “I have chosen Solent Mind & Bipolar UK this time for our sponsored bounce as I think a lot of people nowadays suffer from mental health issues and there needs to be more awareness.

“Bouncing, along with all exercise in general, is the most under prescribed form of helping with these problems hence I would like to do my bit and raise awareness for such a great cause.”

“We’ve joined together to raise money for charity.

"Your donation can really help us smash this goal.”

So far the group has raised £4,000 this year through their fundraising events for charities including Cancer Research UK and the Southampton Foster Carers Association.
