A WOMAN has died after falling from a multi-storey car park in Southampton.

The ambulance service said that the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police had rushed to the NCP car park in Portland Terrace, near the West Quay shopping centre, yesterday evening.

Multiple ambulance crews as well as the air ambulance were on scene but were unable to save the woman.

A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance service said: "We were called at 5.06pm to a female who had fallen from the top of the multi-storey car park.

"She was declared deceased.

"We sent two ambulances, a hazardous area response team, the air ambulance a rapid response vehicle and a team leader."

A spokesperson for Hampshire police said: "We were called at 5.08pm to a woman who had fallen from the NCP car park in Portland Terrace, Southampton.

"It is not being treated as suspicious at this time."

In a statement NCP said: "NCP can confirm that emergency services and NCP staff dealt with an incident on our Portland Terrace site in Southampton yesterday.

"Firstly our thoughts are with the family and friends of those affected, and the whole of NCP pass on our deepest sincere condolences.

"We would like to thank all the emergency services involved, as well as our local team, for their professional and supportive response.   

"We take health and safety extremely seriously, and it is a daily, weekly and monthly process that is reviewed by the local team, our senior management team as well as our health and safety department, to focus all of our teams on delivering a safe environment for customers and colleagues.  

"We have rigorous processes in place that satisfy current regulations and expectations within the parking industry.

"We work in partnership and take advice from agencies including the Police and Samaritans, and will continue to offer them any help they need in their investigation into this sad incident."
