AN OVERTON school could be increased in size to cater for more pupils.

Hampshire County Council has launched a consultation to expand Overton Church of England Primary School to offer 75 places in Year R, allowing the school to cater for 525 pupils in total.

It currently caters for 60 pupils in year each group, with a total capacity of 420.

The plans to the expand the school, in Court Drove, are as a result of a rise in the number of births in the area and new housing developments.

It is hoed that permanent facilities will be available from September 2019.

A drop-in session will be held with county council officers on October 17, at the school, between 3pm and 6pm.

The consultation will run until November 4, after which council officers will consider the response before deciding whether the proposal should continue.

The building plans are currently being developed with the headteacher, Fiona Wyeth, and the governing body.
