HAMPSHIRE’S Thai community gathered for an emotional vigil in reverence to their country’s late King.
The death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej – who was the world’s oldest monarch – has led to the government of the South Asian country declaring one year of mourning.
More than 400 fellow countrymen gathered at Southampton Guildhall last night to pay tribute to their iconic leader who has helped transform the country during his 70 year reign.
They sung the Thai Royal Anthem and signed a book of condolence which will be sent to the country via the Royal Thai Embassy in London.
King Bhumibol Adulyade died in Bangkok last Thursday.
Since his death Government workers in Thailand are required to wear black mourning attire for one year.
State events are also under a 30-day moratorium, and all public offices and schools will fly flags at half-mast for 30 days.
