THE BEST pubs and bars in the business are set to be recognised at a awards ceremony in Southampton.

Launched in April this year the Southampton Best Bar None scheme called on venues across the city to take part.

Pubs and clubs signed up to bid from accreditation from the scheme which would show they had met high industry standards.

Those who demonstrated the very best practices are now in line for a top award at an event being staged in the city later this month - and you can see these venues by clicking on the gallery above.

The winning venues will be revealed at a black tie awards ceremony on November 14 at the Novotel in Southampton.

Of the 30 pubs, bars and nightclubs who signed up to the best practice scheme, 24 reached the required standards to receive an accreditation from Best Bar None.

All venues will be presented their certificates at the awards event.

From the accredited venues, assessed against a nationally agreed framework of best practice for the licenced trade, the best pub, bar and nightclub will be announced along with an overall winner for 2016.

Southampton Best Bar None co-ordinator, Colin Pollard, said: “This is the fifth scheme of its kind to be held in Southampton and the success of each of those schemes is held in high regard amongst those with a stake in the night time Economy.

“Due to funding issues in recent years the scheme has not always been affordable for the city.

"With the new framework, which includes volunteers we can keep the cost significantly lower than previous years and as a result the Council and Southampton Licensing Link have agreed an initial three years of funding.

"This 2016 scheme has not been without its challenges and it has taken longer that expected but we’ve learned a great deal.”

Mr Pollard added that they hoped to double the size of next year’s event and shorten the process.
