TODAY thousands of people around the country will be putting on their festive jumpers to raise money for charity.

Christmas Jumper Day aims to raise money for children’s charity, Save the Children, by encouraging participants to bring out their sillier side in festive themed jumpers.

Everyone, from delivery drivers to dogs, is expected to support the charity's quest to raise vital funds by dressing up and donating £2.

As part of the campaign hundreds of people will be simultaneously jumping as high as Santa’s sleigh at trampoline parks while wearing their festive jumpers in the hope of the breaking the world record.

Oxygen Freejumping, in Antelope Park, is one of the six centres taking part in the attempt to break the current world record of 385 people jumping at the same time, which is currently held by the centres.

Southampton general manager Sarah Webb said: “It is a fantastic event, we are thrilled to be working in partnership with Save the Children- it will be very exciting.

“We hope as many people will be able to come down to support.”

Centres across the country hope to have at least 480 merry jumpers on the day.

Helena Wiltshire, from Save the Children, said: “The world record attempt is a great way to raise awareness of important issues but also to have some fun in Christmas jumpers.

"It is a very silly way to help solve some very serious problems.

"Money raised through Christmas Jumper Day could help Save the Children bring essentials like healthcare, education, protection and food to the millions of children around the world who are missing out on the most basic support.

"A big thank you to all of the supporters due to take part in this attempt – it really is an amazing contribution of time & effort for Save the Children.”
