A POPULAR Hampshire school has launched its own rebranding exercise – and it has been given a boost by one of its most famous former pupils.

Teachers at Crestwood College in Eastleigh asked their pupils and the school community to have their say in giving the college a new name, after it merged with neighbouring school Quilley.

Now the campaign has been brought to the attention of radio one DJ Scott Mills – a former pupil at the Eastleigh school – after another ex pupil called the show to tell him about the campaign.

Scott joked with the caller and said he liked the idea of renaming the school Scott Mills High – and urged listeners to cast their vote in the online poll.

Other suggestions are Alderwood, Charlotte Yonge – a 19th century novelist from Otterbourne – Crestwood High School, King Ethelston, Questwood – for the merging on Quilley and Crestwood –Woodleigh.

Head teacher Krista Dawkins said the rebranding was a public consultation and that she was thrilled to hear Scott mention the school on the afternoon show.

She said: “Scott’s been in to the school a few times in the past. He was made an honorary deputy head boy and he has also been in to speak about his career and being a DJ.

“He’s a great role model for the pupils.

However she added that the survey had been trolled with some more unsavoury names and that Hampshire county council would have final say.

As previously reported by the Daily Echo Crestwood and Quilley schools merged in September 2016 to become Hampshire’s first split site secondary school with 1050 pupils across the Cherbourg and Shakespeare Road campuses.

The rebranding will be done in house by the art and design departments, with new pupils who join in September giving a free redesigned uniform.
