A HAMPSHIRE watering hole is open for business following a major refurbishment.

The King Alfred Pub on Saxon Road in Hyde, Winchester, serves food seven days a week, and is owned by The Little Pub Group, which operates five other pubs and restaurants across Hampshire.

Only ten minutes from the bustle of the city centre, The King Alfred is the company's latest recruit.

It underwent a major refurbishment last year after being put up for sale in April.

With cosy corners, the pub is ideal for a pit stop on the way to enjoying the sites of Winchester, from the historic cathedral to a diverse range of independent and high street shops.

The food offering has helped bring punters through the door, with a mouth-watering menu on offer for the whole family to enjoy.

The team uses local and seasonal ingredients to create freshly cooked classic pub food with a twist, with small plates and sharing boards also available.

The establishment also boasts a beer garden and five boutique letting bedrooms above the pub for anyone who is wanting to stay in the city a little longer.

Jack Norgate from Fulflood has been the general manager of The King Alfred since its refurbishment.

He said: "I would say we are a high-end, high-resident community pub.

"We re-did the inside first, and we are continuing to update the B and B rooms upstairs as well.

"We already already show sport like the Six Nations, and in the future we are hoping to have more music events coming in."
