I READ with interest the article in the Echo on Friday, March 10 about the nominees for the 2017 Energise Me Hampshire Sports Awards.
All the nominees on the short list are obviously all very worthy of being nominated.
However, I would like say that, in my opinion, no one is more worthy than Derik Brooks.
As one of the original founders in 1946 of Swaythling Athletic F.C (now Eastleigh F.C), he has devoted most of his spare time and energy to the club.
I believe that the club is still in existence due to his hard work and devotion over the early years.
I am certain that any surviving players and members of the early days will vouch for this.
I also believe that Derik should receive an award from the FA for his dedication to one club lasting over 70 years.
