IN celebration of British Science Week Winchester Science Centre is hosting a unique exhibition in the heart of WestQuay shopping centre in Southampton this weekend.

On Saturday and Sunday the pop-up Science Centre will offer shoppers the chance to experience a mobile planetarium, hands-on activities in the 'Invention Studio' and a fun science-experiment for them to take home.

Dr Ben Littlefield, Head of Education at Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium, said: “We're very excited to be bringing Winchester Science Centre to Westquay shopping centre for British Science Week. It provides the perfect opportunity for us to introduce and engage the local community with STEM (Science, Technology, Education and Maths) subjects and principles.

“The pop-up Science Centre will feature lots of hands-on fun for inquisitive visitors, while our mobile planetarium will offer a unique cinematic science experience. We hope Westquay's busy shoppers will take some time out to come and have a go, engage with science and feel inspired to visit us at Winchester Science Centre to find out more.

Gina Windsor, Marketing Manager for Westquay Southampton, added: “We're delighted to host Winchester Science Centre's pop-up in Westquay for British Science Week. Getting people into science is so important for the future of innovation and research in so many fields and we are happy to help the Centre reach as many people as possible. We encourage our visitors to take a break from their shopping and engage with some of the fantastic activities and facilities that will be on offer.”

Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium's pop-up Science Centre will be located in the event space on level 2 on 18 - 19 March.

Visitors to Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium during British Science Week will also be given a new complimentary activity book. The booklet contains eight experiments based on the findings of famous scientists, including Newton, Hippocrates, Fibonacci, Eddison, Galileo, Bell, Wright brothers and Faraday, and encourages children and their families to put the theory to the test using exhibits found within the Centre's exhibition area, complete science-themed puzzles and have a go at experiments at home.

The activity booklet is free with General Admission. Subject to availability.
