AN UNSTABLE unexploded shell was discovered on a beach and cordoned off - but disappeared before it could be assessed by experts.

The device was one of two found at Hurst Spit on Thursday night by a member of the public.

Plans were made for an explosive ordnance disposal team to attend the site this morning, but the shells had gone.

They were found at Hurst Spit in Milford-on-Sea last night, with police eager to locate them ‘as soon as possible’.

Police have say one was assessed as unstable and potentially dangerous, and warned residents not to go near them and to stand as far away as possible.

Anyone with information is asked to contact 101, quoting incident 996 of today’s date.
